Constructed of stamped olive drab steel; the obverse with a raised field with a German national eagle clutching a mobile swastika, surrounded by the inscription GOTT MIT UNS (German God with us) on the top half, with a laurel wreath tied together at the base via a ribbon on the bottom half; the reverse plain, marked H. A 42, with a standard soldered catch and a dual prong spring bar; attached to the spring
