and produced in Gold for a short period of time (all WWI crosses were produced in silver gilt)

with the "origin of disability" as being in France in January 1917

Constructed of silvered bronze, on loop for suspension from its period original ribbon, the obverse bearing a central raised Geneva Cross overlaid by a German national eagle clutching a wreathed mobile swastika, the reverse bearing a raised inscription of MEDAILLE FR DEUTSCHE VOLKSPFLEGE (MEDAL FOR CARE OF THE GERMAN PEOPLE), unmarked, measuring 38. 14 mm in diameter, weighing 24. 2 grams, in near mint condition.
